Year 5

Spring Term Activities        Y5 / Y6 Cathedral Visit  NEW

As part of our work during Number Challenge Week the Year 5 children worked in groups to develop their problem solving skills and team work. Some puzzles initially seemed impossible to solve but they quickly learned that, with perseverance and by helping one another they could solve the puzzles.

During International Week, we welcomed some visitors to the school. Firstly we enjoyed the Pop Project and learned about the origins of different styles of music. We had a good sing-a-long. Later that week Key Stage 2 pupils learned to play and dance to Samba music with Samba Bamba classes.

A big well done was due to both Year 5 classes who performed at St Ambrose Barlow High School in their carol concert. We were joined by choirs from St Benedict's and Holy Spirit primary schools and hope to work closely with them again in the future.

Aim Higher

Once again we have been fortunate enough to work with Liverpool University on the Aim Higher project. Our Year 5 classes were visited by Issy and Professor Fluffy who told us lots about life while at University. The children have been thinking about their futures, which skills they will need and which pathways they will need to take to fulfil their ambitions. They even have special access to the website so they can learn more and share with their parents when they are at home.

Play in a Day
During Assessment Week, just before half term, our Year 5 children took some time out to put on a play. The theatre group 'Play in a Day' visited us in school and taught the children an entire play to perform at the end of the day. The theme was 'The Victorians', a topic which Years 5 and 6 are studying in history lessons. It was a lot of hard work to remember our lines and stage directions in such a short amount of time but we had lots of fun playing games too.
