Consequences

The Monster by Erin Kinsella 6L

…Its demonic face was staring right at me; its ghastly rotting odour overwhelmed me; its moving scales like half-dead woodlice sickened me; but what terrified me most was the fact I was alone with this thing, this thing with blood filled eyes and a window-smashing cry. This thing was going to rip me to smithereens and not a soul would know about it.

Suddenly, it pounced towards me, I rapidly panicked. It let out a roar, a threatening roar. The beastly creature scratched me on the face. I was bleeding uncontrollably. "Don't be afraid I'll only kill you!" it sniggered. Now the skin was just being stripped off my legs. The last thing I remember seeing was a huge pipe being swung towards me…

Was I dead… was I unconscious… or was I alive?

(The children had to continue with a piece of writing about a monster in the style of the author.)

Romeo & Juliet

At the start of the Spring term, Year 6 travelled to the Empire Theatre in Liverpool to watch a Shakespeare for Kids performance of Romeo and Juliet. The production was fantastic, set as a musical and everyone loved it . A great time was clearly had by pupils from many different schools all across Merseyside .

There were some good characters but the best were Tibalt and Mercutio. But all the actors did a great job, not least the two who played Romeo and Juliet, and so did the crew.

The background scenery and props were in great detail and quality . Nothing went wrong and the the songs were greatly enjoyable .

The story is of Romeo and Juliet who are in love but their families do not get on. Romeo is banished but plans to return for Juliet who he has secretly married. But when it come to the end it was very sad because Romeo and Juliet both killed themselves.

When the play had finished everyone screamed and shouted and clapped as loud as they could while the last song was playing and then all the actors bowed while we clapped
again .

Jesse Owens

As part of our work for Black History month, 6L have been looking at the life of Jesse Owens. He won 4 gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and his success led to Adolf Hitler leaving the stadium.

Despite this achievement, Jesse was treated very badly in America because black people did not have the same rights as white people. However, he went on to set up a foundation to help talented youngsters.

Year 6 Mass

On Thursday 9th October, Class 6M celebrated Mass with Father Tony in the classroom. The theme was Colour in the World.

We would like to thank Fr. Tony for celebrating the Mass with us and also all the parents and parishioners who came too. It was a lovely occasion enjoyed by all.

Cycling Proficiency

During September Year 6 pupils have been fortunate enough to receive cycling lessons from Barry and Dan of British Cycling. Everyone had great fun learning new techniques and even some very special skills as the photograph shows.  Here are some of the work which has been done so far:

Week 1 – Familiarisation with bikes, gears and brakes.

Week 2 – Learning to ride our bakes through increasing narrow lines without clipping the sides.

Week 3 – Slalom races and limbo whilst riding our bikes with both feet on one pedal.

At the end of each week the next session is eagerly awaited...

Night

A dark alley, smashed street lights,
He sneaks up behind me.
Petrified with goose-bumps on my arm,
Fear surrounds me.
Night is here!

His black, blood stained, tattered cloak
Covered in the dried flesh of dead birds.
His face scarred and twisted from the fires of hell.
His fiery green eyes staring right at me.

He wraps his cloak around me trying to suffocate the soul from me,
His breath smells like the underground sewers in which flea infested rats live,
His touch is as cold as an empty house where no-one has lived for years.
