Dear Parents

Barnardo’s
Just before half-term the school was informed that it had collected the magnificent sum of £1192.16 following the fundraising effort earlier on in the term. Mrs Hart the Barnardo’s representative declared that the amount collected was “absolutely amazing” and wanted me to pass on her thanks to families for their tremendous support. A collection of the eggs can still be viewed on the school website www.inourschool.com along with other reports of school activities.

School Photographs
Families should now have received their proofs. Once again I remind parents that there is no obligation to purchase any package of photographs—the only obligation is to ensure that if no photographs are being purchased, then the proof wallet must be returned to school.

Attendance
May I remind parents that they are expected to notify the school on the first day of absence. On a child’s return to school a short written note should be provided. As reported earlier this term persistent absenteeism is now classed as below 85%. Pleasingly this only involves a very small number of children so far this term as school attendance continues to be above average. Indeed 6 out of 7 classes were above the school target of 95% for the first half term of this school year, as you can see from the table below:-

Reception 92.2%    Class 1 95.1%    Class 2 96.4%   Class 3 96.1%    Class 4 98.7%    Class 5 96.7%   Class 6 98.8%

School Mural—Four Corners Project
The mural on the school fence alongside the cinder path represents what the children imagine/would like to see over the wall on the Gasworks site. This community project was designed and painted by children from classes 3—6 last term, working alongside artists in residence.

School Clubs
Tuesday 3.15—4.15 pm Years 3 and 4 Quicksticks Hockey Club
Years 5 & 6 Choir
Wednesday 5.00—6.00 pm Years 1 & 2 Mini-Kickers
Thursday 3.15—4.15 pm Years 5 & 6 Football

Dear Parents

Parental Consent Form
Regulations in regard of Parental Consent forms have changes, meaning that it is now not necessary to seek parental permission for each and every visit/activity once the enclosed form is signed. Parents will be informed of visits and will always have the opportunity to withdraw their child if they so wish. For residential visits parents will be asked to complete a more comprehensive medical form. Please complete the enclosed form (1 for each child in a family) and return it to school as soon as possible.

Car Parking
My thanks to the majority of parents who continue to prioritise the safety of the children by not parking in Vesuvian Drive at the start and the end of the school day. Sadly after just 3 weeks of the new school year, a barrage of complaints have been made in regard of thoughtless and dangerous parking. These complaints have been passed on to the relevant authorities.

The children did very well in their first cross country race of the season, the Girls came 2nd out of 12 schools and the Boys came 4th out of 13 schools.

Dear Parents

Barnardo’s
For operational reasons the Barnardo’s Presentation to the children was brought forward by 1 week to today. So overleaf you can see details of the fundraising activity by which we hope to support this worthwhile charity - a charity that I know has helped several of our families over the years. Appeal time-table:-

Wednesday 21/9 - Sunday 25/9 Decorating egg
Monday 26/9 - Friday 30/9 Looking after egg
Friday 30/9 Bring in egg for whole school assembly
Thursday 6th October Return donation envelopes to school

Where there is more than 1 child in any family, each child may still wish to do their individual egg but rather than each child returning an envelope, a return of only
ONE FAMILY DONATION ENVELOPE is more than acceptable.

Yours sincerely

Dear Parents

French Theme Day
What a magnificent effort or as they say in France “un effort remarquable”! To see the fantastic variety of outfits at the start of the day was amazing. Staff and children totally immersed themselves into the theme of the day, thoroughly enjoying all the various activities which ran through the day. A particular vote of thanks to Madame Pam Soulsby (our regular French teacher) and all the staff for organising such a great day.

Sports News
Last week saw another magnificent effort by the children. A postponement meant the team had to compete three times in just 4 days—no easy feat. However the children seemed to thrive upon such a challenge. After a 2 day competition the Boys won the Minor Schools Championship by a massive 53 points (their 3rd win in 4 years) whilst the Girls achieved their best position for many years by finishing as Runners-Up. A full listing of children who finished is enclosed. The very next day the children competed in the City Championship and again performed well. The year 3 Girls Relay Team (Olivia Doran, Lucia Cors, Amara Ogbonna and Bethany Bailey) became City Championship as did Audrey Matambo (Year 4) in the Long Jump and Imogen Dawe (Year 6) in the High Jump.

Two days later the children were back in action at Garston CofE School for the Garston Sports Festival. Once again a great team effort saw the children win the trophy for the third successive year. A tiring but very successful week for everyone involved and my thanks to staff and parents who contributed in any way.

Reception Class
A meeting will be held for all parents of the present Reception Class on Wednesday, 20th July, 2011 at 2.30 pm to discuss transition arrangements for entry into Year 1 in September. Please do your best to attend this important meeting.

Non Uniform Day
Thursday, 21st July 2011 will be a non-uniform day as the Juniors will be having a disco in the afternoon and the other classes will be holding parties.

Team Sports Day
We will be holding our Team Sports Day on Tuesday, 19th July 2011. The Infants will take part in team events in the morning and Juniors will take part in team events in the afternoon. Parents are most welcome to attend both sessions.

Mrs Quinton
Next week we welcome back Mrs Quinton following her maternity leave. She will resume as Year 2 Class Teacher in September as Mrs Lynch and Mrs Morgan will finish the year with the class. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking both ladies for all their hard work and support since Christmas. Mrs Lynch will return to school in a part-time capacity in September.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all teaching and non-teaching staff for all their hard work during the last academic year.

Dear Parents

As we prepare to break up for half-term it is interesting to reflect on some of the aspects of school life that have occurred this term.

Nursery/Reception
Staff and children have been working very hard on their garden area and their hard work is evident for all to see. The Nursery children also enjoyed a visit from a Park Ranger who talked on the theme of Living Things . The Reception class also delivered a wonderful assembly for the whole school several weeks ago.

Class 1
The children continue to enjoy the activities led by one of our outside coaches for their PE lessons.

Class 2
The children are currently enjoying working with a Dance coach who is leading a twice weekly session.

Minikickers
A reminder that children from classes 1 and 2 are welcome to attend the Minikickers session held in school every Wednesday from 5.00 – 6.00 pm

Class 3
The children from Class 3 continue to visit a local allotment on a weekly basis as part of their ‘Young Dibbers’ environmental project.

Class 4
Earlier this month the children visited Blackpool as part of their Creative Curriculum programme and thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Next Wednesday they visit Hope University to engage in a Creative Literacy project. They too are currently enjoying their twice weekly Dance session.

Class 5
The children recently enjoyed a visit from one of our ICT Consultants who worked alongside the children developing their ICT skills.

Class 6
The children worked tirelessly to prepare for their recent National SAT exams and I can quite honestly say that thanks to some national schemes (1:1 Tuition) and our own school schemes (Booster classes etc) that they have experienced unprecedented support. Currently Year 6 are also taking part in the Dance sessions as well as taking part in a Garden project with the aim of enhancing our school environment.

Breakfast Club
The school Breakfast Club continues to be a popular venture. A reminder that it runs from 8.00 – 8.55 am and costs £1 per day. The cost obviously covers Breakfast (served until 8.30 am) and supervision costs.

Sports News
Congratulations to Year 3 /4 Tennis team for finishing Runners-up in the area final.
