'Children Helping In Lifelong Learning' |
|
|
| CHILL is a new scheme
set up by St Sebastian's staff focusing on ecouraging children to take a
more active role in their education, to become independent learners,
promote team-work / mentoring skills and support transition from KS1 to
KS2 by developing strong friendships with children in other year groups.
During a school Comenius trip to Nyborg, Denmark last year, staff witnessed the Danish education system and how children are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning through various activities. We decided that we would create a similar project in our school based on the Danish education, which caters for children's individual need, provides numerous learning opportunities with strong cross-curricular links, promote key skills and support friendships between key stages. CHILL is a weekly 50 minute session that is divided into 3 zones (activities): CREATIVE ZONE focuses on fine motor skills, i.e. cutting and sticking to create collages / modelling / fine art GET ACTIVE ZONE: Various activities: Team Games such as tag rugby, rounders, netball / Basic Skills including throwing and catching / Adventure Playground Tasks. QUIET ZONE: Individual packs for children focusing on Literacy (Phonics/Reading) / Spanish / Numeracy (Number Bonds) / Handwriting. Children will visit each zone within the 50 minute lesson and can select from each zone which activity they would like to undertake - the children love it ! |
