Visit to Slovakia

Part of the Comenius Project

These photographs were taken in Slovakia. St Sebastian's is part of a project called Comenius and we are linked with three schools in that Country.

The idea of the project is for staff to learn about teaching a different language in school and also to see how different groups teach and the methods they use. The project lasts for three years and will finish with a visit to Liverpool in April 2009. We are the lead school and the project started with St. Sebastian's. We have subsequently visited Denmark, Slovakia twice as well as Leeds nearer home.

During the trip to Slovakia, we visited a kindergarten and a senior school and were entertained by dancers and singers in their national dress. We went to cultural sites in the country and had meetings together to plan the next stage of the project.

The visits have all been recorded and  when the project ends a video will be produced for all schools to use. It will show many different methods and ways of teaching a foreign language.

We are looking forward to receiving guests next year and are planning teaching sessions and cultural events for the visiting teachers.
