Opening

St Sebastian's School first opened in May 1909 with 131 pupils. The school was situated in Lockerby Road, so come 2009  we will be celebrating our 100 years.

We have lots of information  about the school buildings but we do need you - our past pupils, teachers and parents to help us to complete the school history. Maybe you won an award or a posting event and can lend us your cup or medal, or an article appeared in the paper about your year.

During the War Years

From 1939 some of the children were evacuated to North Wales and the school has a log book with stories of some of the activities -but we would love more details.

If you have more information please do contact the school.

Moving to Holly Road

The school moved to the new school in 1980 and the school was blessed in 1980. St. Sebastian's has subsequently gone from strength to strength.

More Recent History

The present school was first used in 1980 when the children vacated the building in Lockerby Road. This building had been in used since the early 1900's and it was felt that the children needed a more modern building.

After the Ofsted report of 1998, which stated that extra space was needed in the new building, the  governing body looked for a nearby plot of land.  This materialised through the old Laundry block of the local convent.  After much discussion and consultation, plans were drawn up and building began. There were several hiccups, including the removal of Japanese Knotweed, but the building was completed and passed for use.

And so it was that in September 2003, the Reception and Nursery children moved into their new Foundation building. In May of the following year, a dream came true for staff, pupils and parents at St Sebastian's with the opening of their Early Years Nursery, Arts and Sports Centre.

The Field of Dreams Nursery was partly funded by Kensington Regeneration.

The centre was officially opened by Lord David Puttnam, five years after he handed over a £23,000 cheque at the1999 National and Regional Teaching Awards to Mrs Maureen Davies as Lifetime Achievement winner (National), along with Mr Hardiman and Mrs Jacqui Hilton (regional winner).
